Molokini poster concept and design for Worthing hits London Victoria Train Station
A new poster designed to attract more visitors to Worthing on the South Coast is now on display at London Victoria’s train station, beginning a fresh campaign to publicise “Sunny Worthing” and its accessibility, enabling London day trippers and those wishing for a longer break, to be ‘By the sea in 1.23’.
The poster, which features various characters in deckchairs on the beach in front of Worthing’s iconic Dome and the Pavilion Theatre located at the north end of the pier, reflects the range of activities available in Worthing and the variety of people that enjoy them. The characters include a young family, shoppers, a commuter, a kite surfer and a couple who enjoys fine dining and the theatre.
Worthing Town Centre Initiative (WTCI) who commissioned the poster decided that Worthing’s presence in Victoria needed updating with a fresh approach, to raise the town’s profile and remind potential visitors what it has to offer. WTCI invited local design agencies to pitch ideas for the new campaign and was delighted to receive ideas from 17 different companies.
“It was important to capture the diversity of Worthing” said Sharon Clarke, Town Centre Manager for WTCI. “The winning concept combines traditional and modern, from the characters to the activities represented and even the slogans”.
The winning concept devised and produced by Worthing’s Molokini Marketing Ltd combines the ‘Sunny Worthing’ slogan coined in the 1930s, with ‘By the sea in 1.23’. The simple messages are designed to show London travellers how quick (1 hour and 23 minutes) and easy it is to get away to the seaside for the day or for a weekend break.
“The quality of entries was extremely high but Molokini’s poster concept was chosen as one that best demonstrated Worthing as a vibrant seaside town, using local people and businesses and combining the traditional and the modern” adds Sharon. “It is Worthing to a tee”.
Molokini typically serves industrial businesses with PR, design and marketing services but the company’s husband and wife directors, Katie and Nik Webb, were keen to share their ideas about Worthing and help promote the town.
“We live and work in Worthing and are passionate about the town and what it has to offer.” says Katie of Molokini. “It has been a fun project to be involved with as we were able to show some of the activities that real people get up to in Worthing. The town has a lot to offer to its residents and to visitors, and it is a town to be proud of with an exciting future”.
Worthing is set at the foot of the South Downs and is a popular destination for all types of people. The ongoing campaign will showcase more of what Worthing has to offer, from the Birdman to the temporary ‘real ice rink’, so why not email suggestions of what you think makes Worthing special to Sharon Clarke ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
