Full-line forklift manufacturer Hyster Europe has released an LPG version of its compact 8-9 tonne Fortens forklift truck. Designed for tough applications that require heavy lifting capacity where space is limited, its introduction follows the successful launch of the diesel model in early 2009.
Hyster has introduced an LPG version of the H8.0-9.0FT Fortens forklift series that has already been well received in the paper, wood, beverage, metals, ports, automotive and construction materials industries as a diesel version. The high capacity, compact design benefits tough operations with high attachment usage and those seeking reliable performance and a low cost of ownership.
Peter Madoc-Jones, product marketing manager explains “The H8.0-9.0FT was not specifically designed for use indoors, but because it combines compact dimensions with high manoeuvrability and good all-round visibility, customers have already found new applications for it, driving higher demand than expected”.
The 8 tonne capacity forklift trucks are available with either 600mm or 900mm load centre, while at 9 tonnes, it is 600mm on a wheelbase of only 2,450mm.
“Load centre is incredibly important for buyers researching trucks at this capacity” Mr. Madoc-Jones continues. “With the compact frame design and high full rated lift capacity, Hyster is able to offer an unbeatable combination of power and manoeuvrability in this capacity class. Most other manufacturers would have to offer much larger trucks to achieve the same lift capacity and such high lift height”.
The LPG forklift version is equipped with a GM5.7L V8 LPG engine with an output of 97kW@2400rpm and the electronic throttle gives precise performance and control. A large capacity radiator provides extra cooling to ensure that the engine performs efficiently in tough applications, even in high ambient temperatures.
Hyster’s electronically controlled 3-speed DuraMatch3 transmission delivers superior productivity with 3-forward speeds and 2-reverse. The powertrain is controlled, protected and managed by the Pacesetter VSM industrial onboard computer, featuring a CANbus communications network. It permits adjustment and optimisation of the truck's performance to suit the demands of the application.
The VSM also controls the now familiar Auto Deceleration System and Controlled Power Reversal features, both of which contribute to increased truck productivity through the electronic control of direction changes and deceleration, while at the same time reducing operating costs, thanks to reduced tyre, brake and transmission wear.
In addition to controlling and monitoring key truck functions and programming performance parameters, the VSM enables quick, easy diagnostics, minimising repair downtime. Non-mechanical hall-effect switches, IP66 connectors and ORFS fittings also provide improved component reliability. It also features Auto-Speed Hydraulics with Automatic Inching Control.
“This 8000kg – 9000kg lifting capacity forklift truck is reliable in the most demanding applications and provides a low cost of ownership” Mr. Madoc-Jones concludes, explaining that the truck features low maintenance oil immersed brakes, leak-free hydraulics and drivetrain protection.
The easy access operator compartment provides the best in ergonomics with optimised floor space, a new full suspension seat (with swivel option) and an adjustable armrest that complements easy to use E-hydraulic TouchPoint™ mini-lever controls. An isolated operator compartment minimises the effect of vibration and the rear drive handle has an integrated horn to facilitate reverse driving with a single pedal controlling both inching and braking.
With the highest operator position in the industry for this capacity and new range of 2-stage and 3-stage VISTA masts, the H8.0-9.0FT delivers excellent all-round visibility, making it particularly suitable for handling tall loads.
With outstanding serviceability, the “gull-wing” style hood provides simple access to both sides of the engine and all major mechanical components, as well as the simplified CANbus wiring system and the hydraulics. Thanks to low maintenance components, regular servicing is recommended at just 500 hours.
The Hyster Fortens range has already proved to be one of the most reliable engine powered trucks in the industry, delivering maximum dependability for the most demanding 24/7 applications.
