Get more email sign ups

Never underestimate the value of email subscribers.  These valuable soft leads often end up as your most loyal clients or customers… with the right amount of gentle persuasion.  So how do you reach them?  Your website is a good place to start.  Here are a few tried and true strategies to boost on-site newsletter sign-ups.

Include an Email Sign up Form on Every Page

Including an attractive, well-placed and simplistic email sign up form on every single page of your site is a must.  Try it in the footer for example; if they’ve made it that far down the site, they are interested in your content and feeling good about your company.

Keep Sign Up Requests Clear and Simple

A call to action is a powerful tool, but the message must always be clear and the action simple.  If you want someone to sign up to your email list, make it obvious. Write “Sign Up to Our Newsletter” in bold letters, in an easy to find space on the page and don’t ask too much of them to do so.  Just a full name and email address will do.  These days, very few, if any, users will go searching for an email sign up button, or fill in a never-ending form just to receive your emails, so make registering as quick and painless as possible.

Use Pop Ups or Designated Pages

A small pop up box that reveals after a user has spent a designated amount of time on your site is also an effective method for increasing sign ups.  If however you have concerns about alienating users with pop ups, include a designated sign up page where people can find out exactly what they’re signing up for, and you have more space to convince them.  Also, if incorporating pop ups, make sure the pop up is designed to be easily and intuitively closed.  There’s nothing more irritating than having a pop up take over a screen you were engrossed in only to then be stuck trying to figure out how to close it.

Establish Trust

Most people are as wary of handing information as they are credit card details online, and with good reason. In order for users to have confidence in your organisation, you will need to establish yourself as worthy of such charge straight away.

One way to do so, is to immediately offer a privacy policy, ensuring that you will keep all data internal and will not be passing it onto 3rd parties.  It also doesn’t hurt to let them know they can cancel at any time – in case they change their mind about subscribing.
